MagControl technology has successfully demonstrated its ability to detect defects in complex pipelines such as lined pipelines – such as CRA-clad, mechanically lined (MLP), non-metallic lined and concrete/cement-lined pipelines.
For the defect detection verification of the MagControl technology, an original in-service concrete lined 20″ pipeline sample with a nominal wall thickness of 6.3mm carbon steel carrier pipe and a varying concrete liner nominal thickness of 10-12mm (actually measured 15mm) was used for predominantly external defect detection.
A total of 13 external artificial test defects of varying size and depth were introduced into the pipe section for detection and subsequent evaluation verification.
Using the internal MagControl tool, scanning of the concrete lined pipe section showed high detection sensitivity of the externally introduced defects, which were selected in line with POF requirements. Defects of varying depths of 1T, 1.5T and 2T were placed, with the tool able to reliably detect the shallower defects from 20% wall loss. The tests and detection were achieved without any modifications to the inspection system.
This successful test confirms the ability of our MagControl technology to safely and accurately inspect even complex lined pipelines and sets new standards in pipeline integrity support.
